1. POSITION VACANT: Senior Communications Manager, Climate Group (CG), New Delhi

 

2. ORGANISATION BACKGROUND:

 

Climate Group (CG) drives accelerated climate action. The organisation’s goal is a world of net zero carbon emissions by 2050, with greater prosperity for all.

 

CG focuses attention on systems with the highest emissions and where their networks have the greatest opportunity to drive change. It does this by building large and influential networks and holding organisations accountable, turning their commitments into action.

CG uses it’s communications to attract big organisations into their work and also as leverage to convince more organisations to make commitments. CG seeks to inform and support the government in making policy changes that tackle climate change and grow Indian prosperity.

 

CG has already had a major impact on electricity and vehicle markets and has influenced the electricity demand of a large country to go renewable and millions of vehicles to go electric. It runs the world’s largest climate week and in India, it runs programmes that help shift industrial, transport, and energy systems to a cleaner future.

3. JOB DESCRIPTION/ RESPONSIBILITIES:

 

CG is looking for a high-performing, Senior Communications Manager (SCM), to support their ambitions. It is looking for an entrepreneurial professional who will ensure deliverables and grow their communications work, as well as its strategic impact.

 

The SCM will work closely with the India Executive Director and manage a team member. The India Communications team shall have access to a multi-disciplined international team, to support their work and development.

 

The role requires a background of success in working with business or government or on a significant project and would suit someone interested in driving new approaches and ideas in collaboration with a whole team.

 

This is a unique role for someone to further their communications career and play a significant role in working with some of the most influential organisations in India, to drive climate action.

 

This is an exciting opportunity to lead and grow CG’s communications portfolio in India, as part of a passionate and talented international team.

 

Key Job Responsibilities:

 

(A) Programmatic Communications

(1) Lead on the communications activity of CG’s programmes with business and government;

​(2) Devise and deliver the right mix of communications disciplines, as required;

​(3) Establish and execute strong promotional plans for priority campaigns in India;

​(4) Ensure that profile and engagement with state governments are growing in line with strategic objectives.

 

(B) Strategy and Planning 

(1) Develop a clear vision for the future growth and impact of communications for CG’s India operations, with the support of the India Executive Director;

​(2) Act as a senior member of the India and Global Communications team;

​(3) Play a leading role in the development of funding bids and project leadership, including the creation of strategies and plans; 

​(4) Act as a senior advisor to the India team with support from the wider Communications team.

 

(C) Media Relations

(1) Manage proactive and reactive media relations for the India Office;

​(2) Create news stories, delivering the same through press releases, editorials, social media, etc.;

​(3) Work with a network of partners to support the profile of CG’s work;

​(4) Lead a programme to build relationships with journalists to drive results.

 

(D) Increasing Climate Group’s Influence

​(1) Work with the India Executive Director and programmes to support a systematic approach to building relationships with both federal and state governments;

​(2) Build external stakeholder relationships with peers in the communications operations of influential organisations;

​(3) Support the growth of the India team’s engagement on topical policy issues, e.g. through developing communications programmes, topical events, etc.

 

(E) Other Responsibilities

​(1) Manage work on a small number of events with stakeholders, supported by a local and global team;

​(2) Contribute India content to CG’s digital marketing products;

​(3) Monitor, evaluate and report on CG’s external communications impact;

​(4) Work flexibly as and when required, across international time zones.

 

4. QUALIFICATIONS, EXPERIENCE AND COMPETENCIES:

 

Qualification

 

Applicants must have a relevant qualification in communications, or other discipline aligned with the role.

 

Experience

 

(1) Applicants must have demonstrated, in-depth experience in at least one of the following areas, with a significant understanding of at least one other:

 

​(a) PR/ Campaigning: Running major communications-based campaigns over time towards specific objectives, using a combination of channels;

​(b) Media/ Digital Media: Writing press releases and building media contacts and organisational profile over time, with results to show;

​(c) Public Affairs: Working in or with business, managing engagement with governments, or vice versa, on significant issues, and building relationships

 

(2) ​Other experience/ abilities required:

 

(a) Experience with a Communications/ PR Team: In business, in a government entity, another non-profit or consultancy, managing a major area of work;

​(b) Communications Planning: Focused on outcomes, innovation, and contributing to strategy;

​(c) Ability to understand the issues CG works on and represent them to senior external stakeholders;

​(d) Experienced in writing great content that works for local and international audiences;

​(e) Managing Internal Stakeholders: Supporting their needs whilst being a strong advocate for external communications considerations;

​(f) A good understanding of news and an ability to construct news-focused press releases and speak to journalists;

​(g) Proactivity, working without close supervision and ability to seek support from colleagues where required;

 

Skills and Competencies

 

(1) Understanding of the media landscape in India and how to build relations with journalists;

​(2) Strong political antennae for working with governmental stakeholders;

​(3) Experience in different communications tactics to increase an organisation’s profile and influence;

​(4) Experience with a sector or issues aligned with CG’s work (e.g., the energy, transport systems, etc.) or a proven desire to master technical issues and knowledge;

​(5) Comfortable working in a fast-paced, integrated, and international communications team, working across stakeholder relations, public affairs, media, web, social media, etc.;

​(6) At ease in managing multiple priorities and requests at any one time, managing time and expectations to the level expected of a senior manager;

​(7) Line management experience – either own team member and/or matrix management of a project team;

​(8) Experience in using design to deliver high-quality content;

​(9) Excellent interpersonal skills, with the ability to communicate effectively with a wide range of levels – from colleagues to business leaders;

(10) Fluent in written and spoken English with a high level of writing and editing skills.

 

5. COMPENSATION OFFERED:

 

Gross compensation budgeted for the position is INR 22- 26 lacs per annum, based on experience.

 

Please note that the offer made to the selected candidate shall be commensurate with qualifications, experience, and salary history.
