1. POSITION(S) VACANT: State Operations Lead, Educate Girls, Indore, Madhya Pradesh.

 

2. ORGANIZATION BACKGROUND:

 

Educate Girls (a project of 'Foundation to Educate Girls Globally’), is a non-profit organization that focuses on mobilizing communities for the education of girls, in India’s rural and educationally backward areas. Strongly aligned with ‘Right to Education Act’ or the ‘Samagra Shiksha’ the organization is committed to the Government’s vision to improve access to primary education for children, especially young girls.

 

Educate Girls operates successfully, in over 20,000+ villages in Rajasthan, Madhya Pradesh and Uttar Pradesh. By leveraging the Government’s existing investment in schools and by engaging with a huge base of community volunteers, Educate Girls helps to identify, enrol and retain out-of-school girls and improve foundational skills in literacy and numeracy for all children (both girls and boys).

3. JOB DESCRIPTION/ RESPONSIBILITIES:

 

Position Overview:

 

The primary responsibility of the State Operations Lead (SOL) is to orchestrate resources, efforts, and initiatives, to meet state-wide educational goals.

 

The post-holder shall be directly responsible for planning, leading and implementing the program model across the state. S/he shall ensure the smooth operation of existing and new activities at the state level, through the establishment of partnerships with local Government bodies and other stakeholders, and the integration of projects within broader support structures in alignment with organizational goals for the state.

 

Reporting to the Vice President (VP) Operations, the SOL will be responsible for nurturing promising ideas, translating them to reality, and ensuring that all operational resources viz. people, finance, quality and processes are run in the most efficient way possible, to maximize program impact.

 

Key Roles and Responsibilities:

 

(1) Formulate strategy and annual plans for all implementation processes, specifying timelines, milestones and indicators;

(2) Contribute to program design and development, taking the lead for developing budgets, advising on required staffing, strategic and technical programmatic inputs. Ensure that issues of gender equality and protection are integrated into program design;

(3) Liaise with Government bodies, departments, and functions at the state, district and block level for fostering program implementation and strengthen networks to provide support for the effective implementation of project deliverables. Represent Educate Girls to partners, visiting donors, and Government and on various platforms, as necessary;

(4) Donor Key Management Indicators: Finalize, and track donor commitments, including variance tracking and analysis; Ensure timely reporting and due diligence as per donor expectations; Reach out to potential donors; Conceptualize, plan and execute fundraising strategies;

(5) Prepare work plans and budget forecasts and manage budget allocations as per project activities and guidelines; Work in tandem with the Finance team, Senior Operations Manager and relevant stakeholders, for all finance related queries, ensuring compliance with the financial manual and delegation of power;

(6) Manage the functional team at the State Office: Hold regular team meetings to plan work and discuss progress and address problems with team members; Regularly review and assess the performance of district operations; In consultation with HR, implement effective succession planning, people management, development, recruitment, and retention strategies for state and district staff;

(7) Manage community level key stakeholders, liaise with state level NGO partners and other NGOs. on special projects;

(8) Coach District Leads to develop capacity to identify challenges and adopt innovative approaches for developing solutions, ensuring quality within defined timelines and with minimum effort, keeping in mind district level dynamics; Play a key role in change management;

(9) Define KMI and KRA Quality Indicators, in consultation with VP Operations, to ensure their timely and quality delivery; Monitor and analyse data highlighting red flags; Provide insights, standardize templates and suggest course corrections for KMIs and KRAs, in line with targeted outcomes.

 

4. QUALIFICATIONS, EXPERIENCE AND COMPETENCIES:

 

Qualification:

Applicants must have a Masters’ or Diploma in Social Work, Management, Sociology, or Social Studies.

 

Experience:
(1) Minimum seven years of operational experience, with at least two years in a leadership role, managing multiple functions;

(2) Experience with an International NGO is strongly preferred.

(7) Sound contextual knowledge of local issues, organizational relationships, social and cultural constraints and realities, and environmental conditions, Right to Education, Child Psychology, and Community Motivation;

(8) Ability to multitask and perform under stress situations;

(9) Ability to treat people equally, irrespective of gender;

(10) Integrity towards work along with the ability to “know and do” what is right;

(11) Strive to lead by performance excellence;

(12) Work effectively and inclusively with a range of people, both within and outside of the organization. A team player;

(13) Conduct every interaction and action with empathy;

(14) Open to travel and relocation;

(15)  Adept in use of MS Office, particularly Excel and Word; Basic skills in Access or similar database applications; Internet and email. Open for learning and adapting to new technologies being introduced in the organization;

(16) Good spoken and written fluency in Hindi and English; Understanding of local dialects.

 

5. COMPENSATION OFFERED:

 

Gross compensation for the position is attractive. Please note that the offer made to the selected candidate shall be commensurate with qualifications, experience, and salary history.

 

6. CONTRACT: The incumbent shall be offered a fixed term contract, extendable based on performance.
