Founded in 1991, the Institute for Sustainable Communities (ISC) is an international not-for-profit organization, that helps communities around the world address environmental, economic and social challenges, to build a better future shaped and shared by all.

 

ISC builds the capacity of local leaders and organizations to address important global issues, including climate change, sustainable development and environmental protection, resulting in embedded capacity and lasting change.

 

Headquartered in Vermont, USA, ISC has its India offices in Delhi, Mumbai and Pune. It works across the globe to help communities, cities, industry and NGOs, accomplish environmental, economic, and social goals. ISC has led more than 110 projects in 30 countries and currently works in Asia and USA.

PURPOSE OF THE POST:

 

ISC wishes to recruit an outstanding, young, Communication and Knowledge Management professional, to fill the vacancy for Program Officer- Communication and Knowledge Management (PO-C&KM) to increase the visibility, outreach and impacts of ISCs programs in India.

 

3. JOB DESCRIPTION/ RESPONSIBILITIES:

 

Reporting to the Associate Director, the PO-C&KM shall be responsible for the following:

 

Key Roles and Responsibilities:

(1) Design, develop and implement a communications strategy, with the objective of raising the visibility, outreach and impact of ISC’s programs in India;

(2) Develop and disseminate evidence based messages to diverse target audiences (policy makers, community members, Government Officials, CBOs, NGOs, Donors, Media, etc.), in coordination with program teams for various channels, including the social media and other communication channels of the Donor/ ISC network;

(3) Regularly prepare communication materials such as blog posts, photo essays, and AVs;

(4) Develop a knowledge management system for the organization, to enable the sharing of updates and resources, comms calendar, photo essays and templates, for program teams;

(5) Design and roll-out national and local campaigns on specific issues, as and when needed;

(6) Organize outreach and other communication events in association with program teams;

(7) Liaise with the media and other relevant institutions for sharing case studies and success stories, in order to maximize the visibility of the program; Prepare  the media engagement calendar, media briefs, press releases and statements for both external and internal audiences, in accordance with the communication policies of ISC;

(8) Monitor and evaluate various communication initiatives and undertake adaptive management to enhance impact.

 

4. QUALIFICATIONS, EXPERIENCE AND COMPETENCIES:

 

Qualifications:

(1) Master’s degree in Mass Communications, Journalism, Public Relations, or related discipline.

 

Experience:

(1) Minimum six to eight years of experience of a handling a communications portfolio in the NGO or corporate sector;

(2) Extensive experience of using social media channels.

 

Essential Skills and Competencies:

(1) Exceptional oral and written communication skills with the ability to write content for various channels including, case studies, feature stories and creatively packaging and repositioning content, in a timely manner for various stakeholders;

(2) Basic knowledge of working with design software (Corel Draw/ Adobe Illustrator/ InDesign or Adobe Photoshop);

(3) Good communication, project execution and planning skills;

(4) Ability to multi-task, along with a strong result-oriented approach;

(5) Ability to meet deadlines and effectively prioritize tasks under time constraints;

(6) Manage tasks with considerable independence, competence and discretion;

(7) Ability to communicate effectively in English and Hindi;

(8) Knowledge of Marathi will be an added advantage;

(9) Willingness to travel (minimum 40% of the time).

 

5. COMPENSATION OFFERED:

 

Gross compensation budgeted for the position is Rs. 9 lacs per annum. The actual offer made to the selected candidate shall be commensurate with qualifications, experience and salary history.
