1. POSITION VACANT: School Learning Excellence Managers (10 Vacancies), Reach to Teach, [Districts of Gujarat: Bhuj (Five Vacancies) and Bharuch (Five Vacancies)]

 

2. ORGANIZATION BACKGROUND:

 

Reach to Teach (RTT) is an education charity that works with governments and other like-minded organisations, to improve the quality of primary education. RTT exists to transform the lives of children in remote and marginalised communities in India, by focusing on transforming classroom teaching practices and teacher-to-child engagement.

 

Founded in 2003, RTT has grown into an established charity improving the learning outcomes of children in the state of Gujarat and believes that the most important factor in improving children’s learning, is the quality of teaching. RTT’s technical team has helped successfully deploy international best practices in education, at rural schools in Gujarat and is committed to ensuring that the same are extended and adopted by all schools, state-wide.

 

RTT is working in coalition with other organisations, to support Government of Gujarat’s ongoing efforts to deliver systemic change to ensure better foundational literacy and numeracy outcomes.

3. JOB DESCRIPTION/ RESPONSIBILITIES:

 

Reporting to the Senior Learning Excellence Manager, the School Learning Excellence Managers (SLEMs) shall play a key role in enhancing the skills of professionals working on the schools project, in the areas of teaching, learning and leading, apart from mentoring Teaching and Learning Facilitators (TLFs), to help them work in better coordination with Government Teachers.

 

The post-holders will coach and mentor Head Teachers (HTs), supporting them in leading and enhancing the quality of teaching, learning and leadership in their schools. They will also support the HTs in developing leadership skills and behaviours, by the delivery of Education Leadership Development training. The SLEMs shall identify the development needs of HTs and work in close coordination with the Senior LEM to address the same.

 

SLEMs shall also support Cluster Resources Centre Coordinators (CRCs), by delivering training on good teaching, learning and leadership practices, on recognising good teaching, learning and leadership in the classroom, and providing guidance and feedback for changing behaviour and school improvement. The SLEMs will also support CRCs in making visits to schools.

 

SLEMs shall additionally support the Schools and Community Ownership Programme for Excellence (SCOPE), by providing day to day line management, coaching and support to TLFs at project schools. The SLEMs will work closely with the Senior LEM to identify TLF training needs. The Senior LEM shall also support SLEMs in the development of the TLFs.

 

The post-holders will be committed to equality of opportunity for all children and have a clear understanding of what constitutes quality teaching, learning and leadership. They will be able to establish and develop positive professional relationships with Government Teachers, Head Teachers and CRCs, aimed at improved teacher capability.

 

Key Roles and Responsibilities:

 

(A) Teaching and Learning and Leadership
(1) Drive teaching and learning excellence in the project schools:

(a) Assume responsibility for the quality of teaching and learning in project schools;

(b) Consistently demonstrate the RTT approach to teaching, learning and leadership;

(c) Gather insights on the quality of teaching, learning and leadership in project schools;

(d) Identify areas for improvement in teaching, learning and leadership;

(e) Share good practice in teaching, learning and leadership across schools for development across projects and with appropriate project staff;

(f) Identify teaching, learning and leadership related training and development needs for project staff and stakeholders;

(g) Use available data to make informed decisions and hypotheses about the quality of teaching, learning and leadership;

(h) Ensure issues and risks related to teaching, learning and leadership are addressed and/or escalated in a timely manner and subsequently recorded;

(i) Secure an understanding of the RTT approach to teaching, learning and leadership with project staff and stakeholders appropriate to their level;

(j) Provide support for teaching, learning and leadership induction of new project staff;

(k) Provide regular reports and feedback to line managers on the effectiveness of implementation of teaching, learning and leadership interventions, successes, challenges, suggestions and recommendations in relation to the teaching and learning capabilities of HTs and CRCs;

(l) Seek advice, guidance and support for teaching, learning and leadership from other members of the education team.

 

(2) Support HTs and CRCs:

(a) Support HTs with the school improvement cycle from observations, priority setting, staff meetings to school improvement plans (HTAT HTs);

(b) Support HTs with understanding the CRC feedback and delivering staff meetings (non-HTAT);

(c) Support HTs in developing their leadership skills and behaviors through delivering Education Leadership Development Training to HTs;

(d) Support CRCs by delivering training for building understanding of good teaching, learning and leadership practices, identifying good teaching, learning and leadership behavior in the classroom, and providing appropriate feedback for changing behavior and school improvement;

(e) Support CRCs through shadow visits.

 

(B) Staff Management

(1) Work closely with the Senior LEM to identify areas of development for TLFs;
(2) Support the Senior LEM with the development and delivery of training for TLFs both at block and cluster level;
(3) Support TLFs with their professional development requirements;
(4) Support TLFs in improving their understanding of what good teaching, learning and leadership should look like in classrooms;
(5) Support the TLFs in their work with government teachers;
(6) Work with TLFs to identify areas of need or development in their project schools

(7) Support TLFs to develop, implement and monitor action plans for improvement in project schools;
(8) Support the TLFs with problem solving or project challenges;
(9) Support the TLFs with risk identification and appropriate strategies for resolution;

 

(C) Stakeholder Management

(1) Use RTT tools and frameworks to understand the capability development of the HTs and CRCs in the project schools and the best ways/ approaches to support them;

(2) Review progress against plans and get guidance from the Senior LEM or the RTT Teaching and Learning Team, as required;

(3) Conduct coaching and learning focused conversations with the HT and CRCs to develop leadership skills and behaviors, develop understanding of teaching, learning and leadership and ensure school improvement;

(4) Work with the HT to secure a fear free learning environment in all classrooms;

(5) Support the HT and/or CRC with lesson observations of government teachers and giving effective feedback to government teachers;

(6) Maintain records of conversations and interactions with HTs and CRCs.

 

(D) Professionalism and Living the Values

(1) Consistently demonstrate the organizational values to all stakeholders and colleagues;

(2) Work collaboratively with the community team to ensure effective alignment, problem resolution and stakeholder management;

(3) Establish and maintain a safe, well organized learning environment rooted in mutual respect;

(4) Consistently demonstrate and deploy effective coaching skills and strategies;

(5) Build strong relationships with colleagues, including Government Teachers, Head Teachers and CRCs

(6) Communicate understanding of the project and aims clearly to all stakeholders;

(7) Uphold the standards expected of teachers and ensure their behavior does not bring the profession of project into disrepute;

(8) Communicate effectively with RTT staff and wider audiences about the successes and challenges within the project and sharing evaluations and insights.

 

4. QUALIFICATIONS, EXPERIENCE AND COMPETENCIES:

 

Qualifications:

(1) Applicants must be qualified Primary School Teachers (PTC or B.Ed.), or possess any other professional educational qualification (including Teaching Fellowships) along with a Post Graduate degree in any field, or should have a Masters’ in Education

 

Experience:

(1) Minimum 10 years of teaching experience, of which a minimum of three years should be in leadership roles;

(2) Applicants must also possess experience of teaching in a primary school environment, and be able to demonstrate the accomplishment of excellent learning outcomes;

(3) Experience of supporting teachers in improving teaching practices;

(4) Proven track record of improving learning outcomes for pupils;

(5) Understanding of how children learn;

(6) Experience of using a range of teaching strategies to promote progress for all.

(13) Ability and willingness to travel as per job requirements

 

5. COMPENSATION OFFERED:

 

Gross compensation for the position is attractive. Please note that the offer made to the selected candidate shall be commensurate with qualifications, experience and salary history.

7. APPOINTMENT: These are full-time positions. The initial contract offered shall be till March 2022 and renewable thereafter based on performance.
