1. POSITION(S) VACANT: Communications Officer, Swami Sivananda Memorial Institute of Fine Arts & Crafts, New Delhi

 

2. ORGANIZATION BACKGROUND:
 

Founded in 1964, Swami Sivananda Memorial Institute of Fine Arts & Crafts (SSMI), New Delhi, is a respected, value driven, non-profit, providing free primary and secondary education to children at a large school at Punjabi Bagh, imparting livelihood skills to young women in slums at a sophisticated production and design centre for garments and furnishings and free supplementary nutrition to more than 20,000 pregnant and lactating women and children, on a daily basis.

 

SSMI’s vision and mission is to empower women and children to achieve their potential with dignity. It does so through research, promotion, provision of services and skill development, in the areas of education, health, nutrition, environment and livelihoods.

3. JOB DESCRIPTION/ RESPONSIBILITIES:

 

Key Job Responsibilities


(1) Provide support to SSMI’s Communication and Resource Mobilization teams, with all necessary materials, comprising success stories, stories of results, photographs, draft fundraising letters, etc.;

(2) Create company newsletters, blogs and other publications;

(3) Ensure effective outreach and dissemination of the organization’s activities, including local and international events;

(4) Prepare and write briefs, policy documents and presentations, build social media visibility and support print and electronic media outreach;

(5) Copyedit, proofread, and revise communications;

(6) Recommend, implement and maintain website design and operation;
(7) Support the development and editing of concept notes and proposals to be submitted to multi-stakeholders, including corporates and related funding organizations;
(8) Support the Resource Mobilization team in submission of the Expression of Interest (EOI) and Request for Proposal (RFP).

 

4. QUALIFICATIONS, EXPERIENCE AND COMPETENCIES:

 

Qualification:
Applicants must be graduates, preferably with a post-graduate degree or diploma in Mass Communications, Development Studies, Social Sciences, or other relevant discipline.
 

Experience:

Applicants must have two to three years of full-time work experience in communications, preferably with the development sector. Graduate applicants must have three to five years of relevant experience.

 

Skills and Competencies:

(1) Demonstrated flair for writing and a passion for social cause;

 

(2) Ability to transform knowledge and information into exciting and useful messages and disseminate it to the right audiences through the best distribution channels and tailor communications for fundraising purposes;

(3) In-depth understanding and familiarity with the range of communication channels and approaches;
(4) Advanced skills in using a variety of software packages including Adobe Creative Cloud, WordPress, MailChimp, MS Office;
(5) Experience of independently using social media, electronic and print media;
(6) Demonstrated report writing skills, presentation and influencing skills;
(7) Ability to build and maintain productive relationships with a diverse group of internal and external clients;

(8) Ability to work in a team along with strong networking skills;
(9) Good knowledge of the social, economic and political situation of the country;

(10) Alignment with and commitment to SSMI’s mission, vision and values, including rights-based approaches.
 

5. COMPENSATION OFFERED:


Gross compensation budgeted for the position is Rs. 6 lacs per annum. The offer made to the selected candidate shall be commensurate with qualifications, experience and salary history.
