1. POSITION VACANT: Research Executive with Bharat Rural Livelihood Foundation, New Delhi

 

2ORGANISATION BACKGROUND:

 

Government of India (GOI) initiated Bharat Rural Livelihoods Foundation (BRLF) as an independent organization under the Societies Registration Act, to facilitate civil society action in partnership with the Central and State Governments, for transforming livelihoods and the lives of rural households, with emphasis on women, particularly in the Central Indian Tribal Region.

 

BRLF is a unique and first-of-its-kind initiative and the Foundation is constituted as a partnership between Government on the one hand and private sector philanthropies, public and private sector undertakings (under Corporate Social Responsibility), on the other. Major functions of BRLF comprise the provision of financial grants to Civil Society Organizations (CSOs) to meet their human resource and institutional costs for up-scaling proven interventions, investment in institutional strengthening of smaller CSOs and capacity building of professional human resources working at the grassroots.

 

The General Body and Executive Committee of BRLF are constituted by eminent individuals, as well as ex-officio representatives from private philanthropies, public and private sector organizations, financial institutions, State Governments and GOI.

BRLF Research Vertical

 

The role of the research vertical at BRLF includes the following:

 

(1) Facilitating greater understanding of the themes of tribal development and sustainable livelihoods in Central India though policy papers, memos, case studies and reports for both Government and non-Government stakeholders;
(2) Supporting evaluation design of research studies for assessing the impact of programmatic interventions on behalf of the Program Team;
(3) Helping build the capacities of BRLF-CSO partners in developing a research orientation, allowing them to document their work more efficiently and evaluate their performance, using standardized indices.

 

3. JOB DESCRIPTION/ RESPONSIBILITIES:

 

Reporting to the Research Institutional Partnership Officer, the Research Executive (RE) shall be applying mixed-method research to develop policy memos and technical papers for both Government and non-Government stakeholders. The RE shall also appropriately support the Program and Capacity Building verticals, in building institutional partnerships.

 

The job provides opportunity for travel across the Central Indian Tribal Livelihoods region to document the work of BRLF-CSO partners, in the areas of sustainable livelihoods, natural resource management and securing of rights and entitlements of socio-economically marginalized communities under Government schemes.

 

Key Roles and Responsibilities:

 

(1) Tracking, collating and sharing relevant external research and tools on themes of tribal development and sustainable livelihoods in Central India;
(2) Strengthening the research capacities and research orientation of BRLF-CSO partners, by helping them to better document their work, as well as enabling them to develop performance indicators for programmatic interventions;
(3) Developing study design, data collection strategy and identifying external agencies, as and when required, to help with results dissemination to various stakeholders;
(4) Supporting the Program and Capacity Building verticals on specific projects and/or development activities;
(5) Assisting with the development of Terms of Reference, as well as identification of external consultants for research/ impact studies on rural livelihoods.

 

4. QUALIFICATIONS, EXPERIENCE AND COMPETENCIES:

Qualification:

Applicants must possess graduate/ post-graduate degree in Economics, Anthropology, Sociology, History, Development Studies, Public Policy, Social Work, or related field, from a reputed institution.

 

Experience:

(1) Minimum one year of experience in Rural Development, Tribal Development or Sustainable Livelihoods;
(2) Prior experience in designing and conducting structured/semi-structured interviews and focus groups is essential.

 

Essential Skills and Competencies:
(1) Excellent written and communication skills in English and Hindi. Knowledge of other regional languages (viz. Oriya, Marathi, Bengali) is desirable;
(2) Proficiency in MS Office is essential;
(3) Willingness to travel extensively;
(4) Ability to work independently and be organized to ensure that tasks are completed in a timely manner;
(5) Ability to produce results in a timely manner.
 

5. COMPENSATION OFFERED:

 

The gross remuneration budgeted for the position is Rs. 5-6 lacs per annum. Offers shall be commensurate with the qualifications, experience and salary history, of the selected candidate.

 

6. LOCATION: New Delhi

 

7. APPOINTMENT: This is a full-time position. The initial contract shall be offered for a period of three years and is renewable, based on performance.
