1. POSITION VACANT: Deputy Director & Head Education, Swami Sivananda Memorial Institute of Fine Arts & Crafts, New Delhi

 

2. ORGANIZATION BACKGROUND:

 

Founded in 1964, Swami Sivananda Memorial Institute of Fine Arts & Crafts (SSMI), New Delhi, is a respected, value driven, not-for-profit, providing free primary and secondary education to children at its schools in Punjabi Bagh, imparting livelihood skills to young women in slums at their sophisticated production and design centre for garments and furnishings and providing free supplementary nutrition to more than 20,000 pregnant and lactating women and their children, on a daily basis.

 

SSMI’s vision and mission is to empower women and children to achieve their potential with dignity. It does so through research, promotion, provision of necessary services and skill development, in the areas of education, health, nutrition, environment and livelihoods.

3. JOB DESCRIPTION/ RESPONSIBILITIES:

 

Reporting to the Director, the Deputy Director & Head Education (DDHE) shall be responsible for the overall management all Pre School and School Education activities at SSMI. S/he shall also support the Director in developing training and internship activities for the organization’s School for Social Enterprise.

 

Pre School and School Education activities shall include strategic planning, program partnership, supervision of teams, fundraising, and provision of support for the expansion and administration of the Sanjay Deepak Center for Education. Since the focus of education at SSMI is to cater to the needs of under-privileged children, the post-holder shall also be responsible for researching, identifying and fostering new fundraising and partnership opportunities, for generating revenues for expanding school and school plus activities, Including sports and extra-curricular activities.

 

The DDHE shall be supported by a team comprising the School Manager, Heads of SSMI Schools and Manager Sports (in future).

 

This is a key leadership position tasked with the responsibility of helping SSMI evolve into a self-sustaining, not-for-profit, institution, imparting education and training to children and young women in slums. The role requires an outstanding education professional with a strong business orientation and the capacity to help a respected and grounded not-for-profit, broaden its impact on the community.

 

Key Roles and Responsibilities:

 

A. Monitoring and Supervision:

(1) Institute effective systems, processes, and procedures for supervision of SSMI schools and other cost centres to ensure all activities are implemented in full compliance with Government/ Trust Rules and Regulations, as applicable.

(2) Support the development of short, medium and long-term plans for progressive un-aiding of the Primary and Secondary Schools on SSMI campus.
(3) Plan and implement quality improvement strategy for SSMI 'Day Boarding School' for the academically weaker section of society.
(4) Direct and manage the use of SSMI resources and finances in line with implementation plans and within approved budgets.

 

B. Fund Raising:
(1) Work closely with senior SSMI office bearers to formulate and execute fundraising strategies to grow SSMI’s contributed revenue in a sustainable way
(2) Assist in planning, designing and building of SSMI Sports Academy as a revenue centre with suitable infrastructure and resources for all major outdoor and indoor games.
(3) Support SSMI develop Sports as a Vocational Education Course to help youth acquire marketable skills and experience that open up new employment opportunities.
(4) Support all other initiatives which could enhance the resource base of SSMI, such as, developing the School of Enterprise, instituting an Internship Program, instituting short term employment-oriented courses and so on.

 

C. Advocacy and Communication:

(1) Advocate SSMI's institutional expertise, building awareness about the organisation’s initiatives and achievements to a larger audience through Consultancy, Social Tours and other innovative activities.
(2) Strengthen the community through outreach programs such as, Women’s Open School, Education for Mothers and Online Teaching for slum children, amongst others.

 

Other duties and responsibilities as assigned by the Director, from time to time.

 

4. QUALIFICATIONS, EXPERIENCE AND COMPETENCIES:

 

Qualifications and Experience:

(1) Masters’ degree in Social Sciences/ Business Administration/ Marketing/ Communications, or relevant field, with at least five years of progressively responsible project management and fundraising experience with a reputed NGO/ donor agency.

(2) Hands on experience in programme conceptualisation and management.

(3) Experience in the area of education with the development sector, shall be an advantage.

 

Skills and Competencies: 

(1) Demonstrated knowledge and experience of planning, implementation and project management.

(2) Demonstrated ability to communicate, present, market and influence credibly and effectively.

(3) Proven experience in developing and writing funding proposals and mobilising funds.

(4) Excellent interpersonal and relationship management skills with the ability to work and effectively engage, with diverse sets of stakeholders.

(5) Excellent analytical, presentation, writing and verbal communication skills.

(6) Experience of collaborating with community organisations and groups, private sector, etc. to deliver project outcomes.

(10) Proven effectiveness while working in a team-based environment, but capable also of working independently.

(7) Demonstrated skills in balancing multiple projects and priorities.
(8) Excellent working knowledge of Microsoft Office including Word, PowerPoint, Excel and Outlook.

 

5. COMPENSATION OFFERED:

 

Gross compensation budgeted for the position is Rs. 8 lacs to Rs. 10 lacs per annum. The offer made to the selected candidate shall be commensurate with her/his qualifications, experience and salary history.
