1. POSITION(S) VACANT: Research Associate/Senior Research Associate, (Buildings & Communities), Alliance for an Energy Efficient Economy, New Delhi.

 

2. ORGANIZATION BACKGROUND:

 

Incorporated in 2008, the Alliance for an Energy Efficient Economy (AEEE) is an industry led, membership based Indian non-profit organisation, that drives energy efficiency markets and policies in India.

 

AEEE is the only organisation in India that works on creating awareness about energy efficiency as a resource. The organization aims to transform India into a global leader in energy efficiency, by reducing the country’s energy intensity. AEEE is working towards making India a globally competitive and environmentally sustainable economy and one of the most attractive markets for companies, with the best available energy-efficient technologies. The organization also provides a convening platform for Government and Industry to engage in a constructive dialogue to design and implement effective and impactful policies.

 

Over the years, major foundations, as well as bilateral and multilateral agencies, have helped AEEE grow, as well as undertake projects in the area of energy efficiency policy advocacy and business enablement, with emphasis on knowledge products and the creation of more effective and credible platforms.

3. JOB DESCRIPTION/ RESPONSIBILITIES:

 

Reporting to the Programme Lead, the Research Associate/Senior Research Associate (Buildings & Communities) shall be responsible for providing technical support for policy and research programmes in areas including, but not limited to thermal comfort, building energy efficiency, passive design, low energy cooling technology, active cooling strategies, district cooling, net-zero energy buildings and grid interactive buildings.

 

Key Deliverables:

(1) Create problem-solving approaches, perform secondary research, conduct quantitative analysis, financial analysis and synthesize recommendations /findings into clear and compelling presentations and reports;

(2) Conduct detailed research & analysis to examine the impact of policies and programs including PMAY, low energy cooling systems, thermal comfort, passive cooling strategies (shading, cool-roof), building energy codes, net-zero energy buildings, district cooling;

(3) Support/lead in the amendment of state and city-level policies to integrate energy efficiency features as per various policies and programs;

(4) Support/lead in carrying out primary and secondary research for developing concept notes, proposals, and project implementation;

(5) Support/lead in conducting meetings, interviews, stakeholder consultations, focused group discussions on synthesizing feedbacks into high-level recommendations for projects;

(6) Support/lead in project management aspects such as coordinating with partners, stakeholders, and assistance in activities to execute a project;

(7) Facilitate in building strong relationships with relevant stakeholders, including policymakers, public agencies, businesses, subject-matter experts, funding agencies, academia, and peer organizations;

(8) Developing content for technical brochures, infographics, multimedia content and other materials pertaining to the project in close coordination with the design and communication teams;

(9) Support/lead in writing the full reports on the research project conducted and prepare manuscripts for peer-review publication where appropriate;

(10) Participating in events, seminars, etc. related to the field of work in and/or outside AEEE;

(11) Participating actively in and contributing to the overall development of the organization; carrying out tasks assigned by AEEE and travelling for work outside New Delhi as needed.

 

4. QUALIFICATIONS, EXPERIENCE AND COMPETENCIES:

 

Qualifications:

(1) Applicants must be graduates in Architecture/Civil/Mechanical or Architectural Engineering or similar discipline and Post-graduate in M.Tech./ M.Arch./ MS in Building Science from reputed institutions in India or overseas;

(2) Applicants with Ph.D. degree in a relevant discipline will have an added advantage;

(3) Sound understanding of building physics and energy efficiency is essential.

 

Experience:

(1) Minimum 0-4 years of experience in national/international institutions and/or companies, government agencies, with a demonstrated track record of successful engagement in complex projects for Research Associate

OR

Minimum four-eight years of experience with minimum two years of experience in policy research and/or building energy efficiency policy implementation in national/international institutions and/or companies, government agencies, with a demonstrated track record of successful engagement in complex projects for Senior Research Associate.

 

Skills and Competencies:

(1) Sound knowledge and understanding of thermal comfort, integrated building design for net-zero buildings, and energy performance simulations;

(2) Working knowledge of policies and programmes such as National Action Plan on Climate Change (NAPCC), National Mission on Himalayan Studies (NMHS), India Cooling Action Plan (ICAP), Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojna (PMAY), ECBC, ECBC-R, ASHRAE 90.1 and green building rating systems;

(3) Understanding of various ongoing initiatives on cooling from organizations such as IEA, SE4all, UNEP, Cool coalition, UNDP;

(4) Experience and knowledge of building performance simulation tools, data analysis tools will be a distinctive advantage;

(5) Advanced writing and communication skills in English;

(6) Strong ability to articulate, comprehend and synthesize technical information for people working in the policy arena, social/behavioural field will be plus;

(7) Excellent visualization and presentation skills;

(8) Proficiency with spreadsheets, databases, word processing, and presentation software;

(9) Ability to work in multi-disciplinary teams;

(10) Leadership skills and ability to take a proactive approach to accomplish a task;

(11) Be humble and show a willingness to learn
