Senior Thematic Advisor

1. POSITION VACANT:  Senior Thematic Advisor (STA)                    

                                                                       

2. ORGANIZATION BACKGROUND:

 

Swiss Agency for Development and Cooperation (SDC) is Switzerland’s international cooperation agency within the Federal Department of Foreign Affairs. SDC is responsible for overall coordination of bilateral and multilateral development activities, cooperation with Eastern Europe and Humanitarian aid. 

 

SDC wishes to appoint a Senior Thematic Advisor to assist, support and advise the SDC management in the further development and implementation of its Climate Change programme in India as well as for South-South exchange and for strengthening  cooperation amongst organizations in India and Switzerland. SDC’s Climate Change programme includes energy efficiency, renewable energy, climate change adaptation and integration of climate change in development action.

 

 

3. JOB DESCRIPTION/ RESPONSIBILITIES:      

 

The Senior Thematic Advisor will be primarily responsible for the projects allocated to her/ him and as the programme in-charge will manage all activities. He/she will be a part of the Climate Change team and will be responsible for networking and working closely with multi-lateral agencies as well as with national and international organizations. The Senior Thematic Advisor will lead the process of knowledge sharing, creating networking partnerships and platforms for interaction and advocacy. Furthering South-South exchange will also be an important part of his/her role.

 

Key Responsibilities will include:

 

(1) Contributing to development of potential cooperation possibilities and new partnerships and platforms for interaction and advocacy.

(2) Networking and liaising with multi-lateral agencies, national and international organizations including the government and supporting partners in the areas of work.

(3) Contributing to the sustainability of effects of the projects and institutional capacity enhancement.

(4) Actively supporting in policy development processes as well as in mainstreaming of experiences based on field actions.

(5) Contributing to synergy within the team as well as within the overall climate change programme.

(6) Supporting teams concerned in preparation of all reports, annual plans, learning events, workshops, meetings etc.

(7) Undertaking field visits to projects and partners and reporting/ pursuing follow up activities.

(8) Undertaking any other activity/ task / responsibility as decided and assigned by the Country Director/ Dy Country Director or persons authorized by them in this regard.

 

4. QUALIFICATIONS, EXPERIENCE AND COMPETENCIES:   

 

The Senior Thematic Advisor must have a PG Degree or equivalent, with a minimum of 10 years of experience in policy development in the area of climate change at the state/ national level, as well as understanding and prior exposure to working with bilateral and multilateral systems. Preference will be given to Economists with a business background and/or prior experience with multi-lateral organizations and processes.

 

Exposure, experience and expertise in mainstreaming positive experiences in development policies and actions and experience in networking and knowledge sharing is also desirable.

 5. COMPENSATION OFFERED:

 

The selected candidate will on a probation period of six months. Compensation will be in accordance with the education, experience and previous assignments held by the selected candidate and will be decided according to SDC regulations.

 

 6. LOCATION:

 

  New Delhi

 

7. NATURE OF JOB:

 

This is a full time (100%) position. The contract will be governed by the existing SDC guidelines.
