1. POSITION VACANT:  State Consultant – Malaria and Vector Borne Diseases (SC-M&VBD), WHO, Bhubaneswar, Orissa

 

2. ORGANIZATION BACKGROUND:

 

The World Health Organization’s (WHO) mandate revolves around six core functions:

The WHO Country Office in India (WCO-India) provides wide-ranging policy inputs and technical assistance to the Ministry of Health & Family Welfare (MoHFW), in the area of health and health systems, to support a range of health initiatives that include National Rural Health Mission, Universal Coverage, Polio Surveillance, TB Control, HIV/AIDS, Roll Back Malaria, Tobacco Free Initiative, Health Financing, Trade Agreements and Health, Non-communicable Diseases, Environment and Health etc.

3. JOB DESCRIPTION/ RESPONSIBILITIES:

 

The State Consultant - Malaria and Vector Borne Diseases (SC-M&VBD) shall provide technical support to the state malaria control programme at Orissa, as this state has the highest incidence of malaria in the country. S/he shall be based at Bhubaneswar, Orissa and work under the overall guidance of the WHO Representative to India (WR-I) and direct supervision and technical guidance of the Focal Point (Malaria and Vector Borne Diseases), at the WHO Country Office for India, Nirman Bhawan, New Delhi.

 

Working in close collaboration with NVBDCP staff and consultants, the SC-M&VBD shall:

 

(1) Assist NVBDCP in promoting policies and strategies for malaria and other vector borne diseases, as advocated by WHO;

(2) Provide operational support in planning, implementing and monitoring WHO-GoI collaborative programmes in Orissa;

(3) Provide technical assistance in surveillance, capacity building/ training, assessment/ review of activities and studies in the area of malaria and other vector borne diseases;

(4) Provide updates to the WHO Country Office for India in the area of malaria and other VBDs, including information on technical and logistics problems and bottlenecks in implementation;

(5) Assist in coordinating activities pertaining to malaria and other VBDs between WCO-India, NVBDCP, NIMR, Government of Orissa and NGOs;

(6) Prepare administrative and technical reports and undertake any other tasks and responsibilities as assigned by the WCO-India.

 

4. QUALIFICATIONS:

 

Applicants must have Post Graduate qualification in Preventive Social Medicine/ Community Medicine/ Public Health.

 

5. EXPERIENCE:   

 

Three years of work experience in the area of specialization, of which at least one year should be in public health programmes.

 

6. SKILLS & ATTRIBUTES:

 

(1) Familiarity with the functioning of National Health Programmes;

(2) Exposure to Health Management Information Systems.

 

7. COMPENSATION OFFERED:

 

Approximate initial taxable remuneration for the vacancy shall be INR 113,500/- pm.
